Reigniting your passion for your business
Author: Hammond, Angie
The moment you set up your business you were determined and had a plan of attack all decided – you knew what you wanted to do, how you wanted to do it, how you’d run your business and how you’d make all those dollars you dreamed of. That’s right isn’t it – we all go into business because we can do something really well, we want something of our own and bottom line we are all chasing the ever elusive big bucks and freedom to boot.
So here come the facts:
Whether you have just started your business or if you have been in business for a few years you will, or you already have started to get tired and jaded about the whole “being a small business owner” thing. We all ask “what’s the point?” and “why can’t our clients just pay on time?” “Why can’t it be easier, simpler, faster, and more profitable”. Well we have all been there unless you are superhuman and in that case – please share some of whatever you are having with the rest of us, then it will happen and you need to know how to climb out of the spiral before it consumes you and your business making you into another “failed” statistic.
Ok so how do we get over these days and how can you re enthuse yourself about your business? Take my word for it – the answer is figure out your marketing plan and get excited about the potential your business has. Remember WHY you started your business all those years ago.
Every conversation I have with Small business owners who are “over” being small business owners always starts with a list of issues they have with the business, finance, staff, time, but always ends with solutions being found through effective marketing and ensuring that the new marketing campaigns you develop have a process within your business to back them up.
Think about it
Problems with Finance– This is because there are either not enough customers or the wrong type of customers = Marketing.
Problems with Staff– This is predominately because of communication issues in the business – set up systems and processes and these are eliminated. Why are systems needed? Because customers buy from the company and expect a level of service, how do they buy – through sales reps or online/ shop front and how did they find out about the business = Marketing.
Problems with time– Anyone with too many things to do will never do an effective job, Marketing takes time, you have to work it, you have to monitor it and you have to grow with it. If you managed your marketing well and had processes backing up your sales process your time would be smartly used and used only to benefit the business. Delegate and outsource and you will find that you will be a better business owner because of it, not only will you be less stressed, your company will make a better turnover as well.
Why not complete our very simple exercise, it will help you bring some perspective back into your business and give you a good idea of what you are doing that is not working, what you could do that might work better and re ignite some of the passion you had when you first embarked upon your business.
To be a small business owner or not to be a small business owner – that is the question!
Once you have finished the exercise you will either be sure you are wasting your time and energy or know that there are so many things that you can do to make your business a screaming success.
